Technical Logic is the maxim and guiding principle of Boyd Maritime, and the following definition applies (italics: ref. Chambers English Dictionary):
Technical - the science and application of naval architecture and ship surveying.
Logic - a mindset which determines 'the extent to which someone's reasoning is sound'. In this way, logic can provide a 'convincing and compelling force of argument''.
Regarding expert witness work, and especially where there is a dearth of contemporaneous evidence or required documentation, Technical Logic helps to determine 'the way that a string of related events or facts is interconnected'. Inevitably, not all incidents occur as a result of foreseeable aspects, and so intuition and pragmatism must also be applied. Finally, technical logic helps define the scope of work for investigative analysis by ensuring compatibility with the nature and scale of the tasks at hand.
